Juicing and Blending Adventure
Let’s go on a Juicing and Blending Adventure!
When things get busy, healthy eating is often the first to go, isn’t it?
Being healthy, staying healthy, and feeling good within my body is one of my passions, because … without it, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do and hold the pace. So I figure if this is important to me and it works, then likely you might want to try a dose of the same tips and tricks that keep me sane and energized.
Next time you’re:
- tired, stressed and frazzled
- overwhelmed with to-do’s
- want to reach for comfort food
- need a change of pace
- curious about making healthy choices at meal and snack time
It doesn’t mean Give Up. Instead make it a ‘Reset’ and discover how easy it is to prepare and drink delicious drinks that nourish your body and soul.
With one of my past careers as a Naturopath, I’ve always been right into supercharging and energising. It’s in my blood and I wouldn’t be without this particular Reset. Highly recommend Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Juice – it’s been one of my go-to books with so many creative delicious recipes. All you need is a juicer for your juices – bullets will do – and a blender for the smoothies.
Over the last weeks, here are two favourites that I’ve been diving into …
Classic Green Lemonade Juice
Green lemonade is the Cadillac of juicing recipes. A great cleanser and the juice is sweet (thanks to the apple) and a spicy (gracias to ginger). The natural bitterness of leafy greens is cut by a bright squeeze of lemon. You can use any type of leafy green in place of kale – be sure to use leaves only, not the stalk that can be bitter. Adding romaine lettuce or spinach or broccoli + stem — you name it! Be creative. This juice is a perfect for all of your greenest fridge scraps.
Makes 2 servings
- 2 stalks celery
- 1 small cucumber
- 1 apple, cored and seeded
- 1-inch piece ginger, peeled
- 3 leaves kale
- 1/2 lemon, peeled
1. Wash and prep all ingredients.
2. Juice all ingredients.
Body Booster Smoothies
Smoothies are incredibly powerful vehicles for optimum nutrition. The blends I’ll share here and later boost your daily intake of nutrients our bodies’ need most dearly: iron, calcium, fatty acids and protein.
The Terrific Body Builder
This protein-packed smoothie is my go-to meal before or after a workout – and apparently the best go-to in the midst of a busy day for my beloved farmer partner. Peanut butter – almond butter – combo butter, whatever your taste + hemp seeds help to build and repair muscle, while the kale keeps things mean, green, and loaded with minerals like calcium and iron. Substitute any of your favourite milks for what works best for you – we use almond milk or coconut milk – and if you’re dairy tolerant go for it. This will give you an added dose of protein too.
Makes 2 servings
- 2 small bananas
- 2 cups of your preferred milk
- 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
- 2 tablespoons all-natural peanut butter
- 1 pitted Medjool date or a few dates your choice
- Wash and prep all ingredients
- Blend and serve
Berry Protein Power
Berries and chocolate are like Fred and Ginger – a beloved pair. Hemp seeds and kale make this smoothie especially nutrient-dense, plus the combo of banana and milk – dairy or not – make it oh-so-creamy.
Makes 2 servings
1 large banana
1 cup blueberries, frozen
1.5 cups milk – I’m dairy intolerant so almond does it for me with this
2 tablespoons hemp seed
2 tablespoons cacao nibs
1 cup kale leaves only tightly packed
1. Wash and prep all ingredients
2. Blend and serve
